Existência
Existência happened between 2002 and 2005 and was the only project of João Fiadeiro in which the methodology of Real Time Composition is applied live, becoming the only reference that performers share as a "script". It aspires to be a “total spectacle”, while refusing the romantic and Wagnerian characteristics that stick to that expression.
A total spectacle only because it seems to disturb the very definitions of spectacle and representation, diluting at its core the roles of the choreographer, the dramaturge, the interpreter, but also the role of the spectator.
So Existência gives the interpreter the central and unique place that is his/hers by right: the place of the responsibility of what is given to the spectator’s sight at the moment of the representation
In this sense, Existência organises the disappearance of the choreographer as a creator in order to resituate him within a team he would have selected, and of which he would be the coach.
The game strategy can be studied in the studio, yet the moment of the encounter with the public remains open, depending on the right application of the methodology of Real Time Composition by the interpreters; of their “inspiration” when the moment of taking a decision comes; of the opportunities they will be able to create as the representation unfolds.
Existência takes the purposes of the artistic research we lead literally. There is no written choreography, no pre-established plan, no predetermined action. Everything is decided when the moment comes.
Each representation is the creation of a new spectacle.
